Instance parameter on links for use in room schedule.

Hi Revit community,

I have a link and a host file. In the link there are walls and 4 rooms.

In the host file, I have placed the link two times.

I now create a Room Schedule with Room Name, Room Number, etc. with Include elements in links checked.

So far so good.

Now I add the schedule field RVT: Name to my room schedule. Now it is possible to see if the room belongs to link instance A or B.

Now create a project parameter and assign it to RVT Links. In this case I call it TEST LINK NAME.

The values or text added to the new parameter does not show up in the schedule?

What am I doint wrong?

Is it not possible to assign instance parameters to links and see them in a schedule?

Please see snips from test model below.

Thanks and best regards,

Kasper,

  1. To include project information from a linked model, for Select Available Fields From, select Project Information. Add the desired fields from the Available Fields list to the Scheduled Fields list.
  2. To include the linked model instance name or file name, for Select Available Fields From, select RVT Links. Add the desired fields from the Available Fields list to the Scheduled Fields list.
Note: In the schedule, the file name does not include the file path or the file extension. In addition, if there are visible nested links in a linked model, the file name that displays for elements in the nested link is the parent link.
  3. Click OK.

There is no RVT: Links category for you to associate a parameter with.  You can open the Project Parameter dialog directly to see it for yourself.  When you add the parameter via the schedule you actually add it to the scheduled category, in this case Rooms category.

Not sure what your qoal is but if you only need to change the name of link instances and just rename them from 1, 2.... to anything.

Are you in Revit 2018?

Start up a new Room Schedule. Make sure that you have checked the box to include from linked files. You will also be able to add RVT links to the schedule.

Yes, I've already added to Link name to the room schedule. Now I would like to create a instance parameter like Link name.

Thanks for your reply. Am I not getting this?

I see an RVT links category?

I assign it through Project Parameters, not in the schedule.

I am able to create a room schedule and add the field TEST LINK NAME. I am also able to use the parameter in the proporties, when I select a link, but the data does not show in the schedule, like "Link Name" does.

I have a model, with a lot of links, where we would like to add a Instance parameter to the links.

We have several uses with that instance parameter.

In this case lets say there are 3 links, which is placed 30 times in the model. So we have Link A placed 10 times, Link B placed 10 times and link C placed 10 times.

Thanks for your reply,

Yes, as shown in the screen shots,I am able the add the fields from RVT links to my room schedule.

When i create a Project Parameter and assign that to RVT Links, the data does not show in a schedule.

I can select a link, add data in the Project Parameter.

I can also add that parameter to a schedule, but I cannot get the data to show in the schedule. As shown on the screen shots.

RVT Link: File name - Works

RVT Link: Name - Works

RVT Link: TEST LINK NAME - Data does not show in schedule. Only shows data in properties pallette.

I see now that you are using 2018 so RVT Link category is available.  I was looking at the 2017 which is a bit different.  Anyhow, I don't any answers to the issue at hand.  Quite puzzling.

I did not realise it was new to 2018. But now I know.

Thanks for your time anyways.

I'm having the same problem in Revit 2019. Have you found a solution?

I'm seeing the same issue in 2020.  The project parameters for the RVT Link category reports information in the link schedule, and I can select it for the door schedule, but in the door schedule it shows as blank.

Here's a thought. Bind the linked file. :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:
