Dear forum.
I have been using Revit since the end of 2002.
I do not claim to be any kind of expert.
I have a question of sorts perhaps which is also a strong complaint about AutoDesk and Insights.
I asked for advice from some trusted sources who indicated that it is not possible to opt out of the Insights program.
You will know that sometime or other depending on some unknown conditions, an e-mail arrives with the Insight logo and a report advising what keys you have pressed and what functions you have used in the past period.
If my information here is incorrect, and it is possible , to opt out of this data gathering by AutoDesk then I am happy to take it on board. I do not mean just stopping the mailers arriving, i am talking about the gathering of my data stopping altogether and the surety this is in fact not going on behind my back without my permission.
I totally agree and support the rights of any vendor to ensure the users of their products / software programs are legally entitled to access and use the software.
I have however a bad feeling, about a company creeping around and looking over my should at every keystroke I make, then telling me how to use the program differently than I am / might / will. will not.
Now I appreciate that many larger firms of many seats , hundreds of seats potentially, and across multiple disciplines may or will find the Insights advice a help to their staff efficiency .
I am not in that position.
I do not need and I do not want, someone watching over my shoulder at every key stroke I make.
How I use the program, what I make or do not make with it is actually none of your business Unless I agree it is ok for you to gather some specified data outside of the strict and minimal code required to confirm I am a legal user.
I have nothing to hide, however it is not something that should be happening that another firm, is able to follow you in this insidious manner, and in fact if we pan out here, the landscape is that an entire world industry of architecture and the ones for structure and mep at least, are fundamentally being harvested by this system and i find that disturbing,.
It seems a big stretch form asking and only doing some product research or development data with an agreed user base or for an agreed period of time. This Insights thing is pretty dodgy and an aside is i wonder how the heck it got past the NZ regulators of the privacy laws where you would expect, that each individual user will have the final and unequivocal say of whether or not they will allow or agree to participate in some program for a fixed time or in a fixed way, as opposed to a system where users cannot opt out. That seems nothing short of draconian and bullying to me.
Again, you might say this is only meta data, we don't do anything with it ...but uh,. you send personalised advice regularly to me, so you are well aware, of what each user is up to.
If my information is not correct and there is a way for me to opt out of this program and, to be sure the data gathering is not still going on regardless, then I will be happy to hear that, and thank the person who is passing this news on.
However I would like to advise AutoDesk as they directed me here to do this post, that this Insight program and the way it seems to be implemented is not serving me the customer of some 21 years odd, at all.
I am very unhappy about and have been for a long time but the advice I received at the time was that you cannot opt out.
If true, this is outrageous and should be changed to become a genuine opt out option fair and square.
regards
trombe NZ.
