Inserting images to a model in 3D view using tags

Hi,

I am currently working on Bridge Information Modelling in which I have to prepare a bridge 3D deterioration model. One task that I have to do is to insert the images of the bridge elements in the right place on the Model in 3D view. I know ways such as Painting or using decals but those are not what I require. I want that the 3D Model remains as it is in its original form and I want to insert those images through a separate way say links or tags that are labelled on the model in 3D view at the correct position, and when the those tags are clicked, the image of bridge is displayed. Is there any way I can do this in Revit? Please let me know for any possibility.

Thanks

Warm Regards,

Zeeshan Abbasi

How about a link to the Image? Open one of the Sample Projects in pre-2024 Revit and see how they have associated the "Help Button" to a "Learning Link".

I checked it out and was unable to edit the link in that sample project. Further, can you please explain how to add this help button in my own model.

I don't know what the issue could be. You just type in an address. No different that entering an address in a web browser.  As for how to add it to your own Project, just copy the one in the Sample File to Clipboard and Paste it from the Clipboard into your Project. CTRL-C, CTRL-V.  Bada bing.

BTW: you don't even need to type in a full address. Load all the images into your Project and then just type the Image Name.  For example: "Smiley.png" like I showed in my screenshot.

Hi, I checked it out and unfortunately there are 2 issues with that:

1-The help button cannot be pasted in 3D or even in 3d views (whether locked or unlocked). I need in 3d view.

2- The help button is suitable for holding url and links only, because it cannot hold image. Only the reference can be given to it and it fetches the image from the hard disk. This means that the image is not stored in the model and cannot be opened in the model.

Revit doesn't store images, but that's not a showstopper.  eTransmit will package up the RVT and all dependent files, including Images, into a single folder for Internet transmission.  Regarding the Help button: place in on a sheet near or on top of a 3D view.  If that isn't satisfactory, then I don't know what else to tell you except good luck.  Hope you find what you are looking for.

That would be just pasting images of model on sheets and not tagging on the actual 3D Model. Do you think that Dynamo has the capability to perform this task? Anyways, thanks for your time and efforts, I appreciate it.

What would a Dynamo Routine do?  It's fundamentally 2 steps. Select the element you want to inquire about and then select one of its properties, such as its URL Type Property.

You can technically do it. This image is embedded into the tag and you cannot turn ON/OFF the image. If you want different image, you have to create another family tag with different image.

I see, but again the issue is that using this technique only 1 image can be inserted for a component, isn't it?
Like If I want to insert multiple images for a single component say, a girder of a bridge, so I will not be able to do so.

I see, this way is acceptable for small sized images or say logos etc. But I want to insert the real images of bridge components that are larger in dimensions and also the image needs to be zoomed so that the deterioration is clearly visible.

If you want the use thumbnail images for tags and full images for reference details then it might be easier to achieve in a PDF program.

What is a PDF Program in Revit? Can you please explain me.

Not in Revit. PDF programs outside of Revit that can handle hyperlinks.
