Why cant you insert a sheet index into a drafting view?
I want to know WHY it is not possible. This will be helpful in my understanding of revits limitations.
Schedules can only be placed on sheets. That was the way the program was designed. The why is because schedules are used to report valuable data about the elements in your model in a legible format for your construction document set. And the best place to display this data is on a sheet, potentially with other related views or details.

By design schedules were simply intended to be used on sheets. Lots of people in the past had similar if not the same question because they would like to add a rebar schedules or load schedules on the detail views but such requests were not a very popular demand from the user base for Autodesk to implement in the software. And frankly speaking, where would that detail view and the schedule on it end up? the Sheet!
There used to be this Ideas forum, if it still exists, you can always look up the old Idea if it has not been archeived or simple post a new Idea to add this feature
