Infraworks topo texture into Revit

Hi all,

I would like to be able to use realistic topography in Revit, i have managed to import an Infraworks model (exporting as obj, importing into Formit, exporting as dxf, importing into Revit) to create my topo surface but is there a way of importing the texture from Infraworks? Or is there another program i can use? I will then create my Revit buildings on top of this surface.

I am very new to both Revit and Infraworks so please be gentle 🙂

There is a Revit Infraworks add-in you can get under Product Updates at manage.autodesk.com.  That should work.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Revit Infraworks add-in only relates to bridge and tunnel design, NOT toposurfaces.

Would love to be wrong about this.

Assuming I'm right, why would this be marked as a solution to the question???

Export InfraWorks model as FBX. Create a new file in FormIt Pro and import FBX into that. Save the file as an AXM file. In Revit, Link CAD and change type from DWG to AXM. Voila!

Note: It would be MUCH easier if Revit supported native linking of InfraWorks models, but I'm not holding out any hope for that happening.

The number of Formit users in the world can be counted on one hand. Can you still get it? FORMA on the other hand can generate smallish texture mapped topos and DO link into Revit.

Don't you love it when Autodesk acquires a product, then ceases to develop it further, then takes away features in the "new and improved replacement product"? I only use FormIt as a bridge between InfraWorks and Revit. When Forma handles that, I'll gladly move on. Civil3D will also open IW models directly and I've not experimented much with associated AutoCAD Maps when exporting contours, but that could be another approach. With increasing availability of Cesium's Google Earth 3D tiles, IW is less relevant or necessary.
