In Place Model (Flashing) on Roof

Hi all,

I have modelled a roof flashing on the sloped roof below (highlighted in blue is the flashing)

How do I host the flashing onto the roof so that when the roof changes in height the flashing moves with it?

Please note, I used the following method Component>In-Place Model> Sweep, and then picked lined on the roof that I wanted the sweep to go to and then I selected a family profile that I created which was just a rectangle 100 x5mm thick. I tried locking the profile to the reference plane within the family but this did nothing.

It should update itself with the roof if you use:

  • Fascia tool
  • In place model sweep using Pick Path then pick the roof edges, not Sketch path then Pick lines

I used pick path and it doesn't work. Please take a look at the model if you get a chance.

I don't see a problem here.  Your flashing sweep is moving with the roof perfectly.  What am I missing?

In 3d view I clicked the roof and then gave it a base offset of 1000 for example  and the roof moves but the flashing stays where it is. What am I doing wrong.

Yeah, i see what you are talking about.  Change Roof's Base Offset from Level and Sweep doesn't move.  You can correct it quickly though.  Select Sweep, press Edit In-Place and then press the green Finish Model checkmark. That'll update it.  Still, I'd stick with Roof Components (e.g. Fascias, Gutters, Soffits).

By the way, it's the same behavior as Wall/Roof by Mass Face. When you modify the Mass, you have to press Update to Face to get the Wall/Roof back on the Face.

Simply edit the flashing and finish without changing anything would fix it.

Ohh I thought I would have done that in creating that flashing. You have no option but to finish it

Yes I do but I'm surprised that I have to press a green ticket because when you create the sweep don't u have to accept all the green ticks to create the flashing sweep?

I'm surprised too by the behavior. It flexes every which way but that way (e.g. Base Offset from Level).  Whatever.  Couple of more keystrokes never killed anyone.  :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:
