In-place massing - pitched roof

hi guys

 

I am getting my head around in-place massing for site design and understand the concept.

 

I need to create a mass of some existing buildings on site which will remain unchanged.   Some of which have a pitched roof.  Can anyone recommend the best way to approach this?

 

Must I create 3 forms?  Square for base and 2 x triangle?  If there is easier way, please guide me in right direction.

There are several ways to do it. Here's one possible solution:

If the roof is just a gable roof, you need to go until step 5. If its sloped in other directions, proceed to the next steps.

 

Sorry, the new "Photos" icon in the forum makes the illustrations blurry. They used to display nice before. 😞

Alfredo, thnk you so much,  in theory your response looked very straight forward. However in reality I have struggled at ~(4) (5). I have tried using Add Edge, but this just adds a vertical line to my rectangle.  I have tried adding 2 vertical lines at the opposing mid points (where the pitch centre would be) in order to raise up the central ridge and joined these with model line. 

 

I have tried selecting various parts but for some reason I only get option to raise the entire Roof rather than the central pitch line.

I know I must be doing something silly in error. If you could screen cast I would be ever so grateful. if you are too busy, don't worry 🙂

Notice, in step 1, that I begin by selecting the vertical plane as the current workplane, and notice that in step 2, the rectangle is standing up, parallel to that plane. If you cannot create the edge on the top, most likely you started with a rectangle that was laying on the floor.

Three years later and the same problem. 

What would be the best approach if the mass has to be extruded from a plan drawn profile. (think of an irregular plan that needs to be traced from a dwg town map) That mass needs to have a pitched roof. How can we "add edge" to the top plane of a mass created in plan?

One possible solution is re-extrude an identical mass, using the work plane on one of the mass "walls" and dragging to size. Tab delete old one.

6 years later the same problem. My solution is to create a roof by face on the mass you require and matching the material to the mass have a pitched roof. Its obviously not ideal if you have many contextual buildings to add a roof to, but if you only have one or two its doable
