Does anyone know how to, in a family, attach a clearance zone to the level and allow it to stretch with project Elevation from Level or Offset from Host.

Is the Clearance Box Aligned and Locked to Reference Planes/Ref. Level in the Family? Doesn't look like it from your screenshot.  If you want the Clearance Box to be parametrically-sized, then you need build that intelligence into the Family just like you would anything else that is parametrically-sized.

...is this what you have in mind? See attached.

Yes, trying to do that. The Clearance Zone is a nested family that can attach the Top, Btm, Front, Back, Left, and Right to planes in the main family and flex. My issue is attaching the Btm of the Clearance Zone to something that stays fixed to the Level it is placed on in the Project but allows the rest to move up with the "Offset from Host" or the "Elevation from Level" in the properties. Currently, when I change the elevation in the project the clearance zone moves up or down and the bottom of it moves too. I need it to stay fixed to the elevation.

See my first post again. I added something for you.  See if that RFA works for you.

No, the bottom of the clearance zone has to be stretched to the level after placement. I want it there already and stay there when the elevation is changed. This is for the detailer so they do not have to stretch or align anything after placement in plan view. They just have to change elevation in properties and that is it.

Your family functions like that now.

Lock the Clearance Box to the Level.

can you post the model you have working correctly? I am not able to lock the zone to the level and get it working. I would like to see what you did to achieve it.

You're locking it in the project. I don't want to have to do that. I guess my intent is not achievable.

Actually the clearance box sticks to the level without even locking it.

Is this what you want to be able to do?

Change the "Elevation from Level" parameter in properties in the project. It moves the whole thing. Not what I am trying to do.

No, that is not what I want to do. I want to place it in a planview. Set the elevation, in the properties, and walk away. I do not want to go to an elevation view and drag/align the bottom of the clearance zone.

Oops. Forgot Plan View.  See attached.

Look at the revised one (CB-2).  If that ain't what you want, then I have no idea what you are looking for.

Why would you change Elevation from Level?  Change Offset value which is what you define in the family.

Unfortunately, that is still not it. You still have to go to an elevation view and drag the bottom of the clearance zone to the level below. The whole intent of my request for help is not to have to do that. Once you place the VFD in the plan view and set the elevation in properties the VFD moves up or down but the bottom of the clearance zone stays at the level it is placed on. It may just not be achievable.

Yes, that offset I added works but would like it to work without it.

I guess I just don't understand what the heck the Level in the family does in relation to the geometry once place in the project. I was assuming that the level line in the family stayed connected/aligned/constrained to the level in the project it was placed on and never moves. Therefore I could attach some face/edge/plane to it and it would stay put while the rest of the family geometry moves with the offset from host or from the level in the properties in the project. It must be that those two parameters move the entire family and nothing really can stay attached to it. I will file this under WHO THE #%$^ KNOWS and leave it as I have it.

thanks, everyone for giving it a shot.

It can be done. It's a two-step process though.  You need to "anchor" the bottom of the Clearance Box in the Project.
