Impossible Purge

Hello,

I know many man users have a similar problem - but my situation is (seemingly) even more simple, and I am still unable to find a solution.

I have a title block family that I am currently editing. At some point CAD must have been imported, but since has been deleted and purged. However, there are still "imported categories" showing up. These are grouped under "Imports in Families". As you can see, this title block family has no families, links, or groups. I've even deleted every selectable object in the family and purged, and these still show up. Are they impossible to remove?

If you import a DWG into a Title Block family, you should be able to do the following (you've already taken some of these steps, just confirming)

  1. Delete all instances of the imported DWG
  2. In Visibility Graphics, make sure all the "layers" under Imported Categories are checked
  3. Once you do that, if you go to Purge Unused, you should see a line item at the bottom showing you how many Imported Categories is can purge
  4. Click OK to purge and they should go away

Sorry that this feels redundant, I mainly wonder if you see the extra line at the bottom of the Purge window.  Again, it will only list those that are checked under VG.  For some bizarre reason...

hi @cmroz,

Yes, make sure first that nothing is hidden in any way, and be careful that you don't have any import in any NESTED family (they would be impossible to purge from the parent family). Delete any group as well (they could exist in the family but not on screen)

Then, you need to purge two, from time to time three times in a row, for the same reason:

it will purge any unutilized family before it could purge the associated styles.

Here is where to find them:

Tell me if it helps,

If you're sure there's nothing in these subcategories, you can just delete them.

Thanks for the responses.

I have unhidden everything, erased all references and purged multiple times. As you can see from the screenshot there are no nested families, groups, or links as stated in the first post. I have also unhidden (nothing hidden) and selected all and deleted everything (even all lines). Same results. I've attached the file so you can check it out. If there is something hidden in there I cannot figure out a way to unhide it.

Unfortunately you cannot simply delete the imported subcategories as suggested. Please see the screenshot in the original post. There is no option to remove these in any way.

For now my work around was to select all and copy to a new family. These subcategories were not imported into the new file.

However, I would still like to know a better solution.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

What version of Revit are you working in?

You don't delete the subcatgories in the Visibility/Graphics Overrides, but in the Objects Styles. You can do this in the family, as well as in the project.

Hi @cmroz,

I have had a look at your family and I do not get how to get rid of those imported categories...

I would suggest that you make it again from a clean template.

If the solution is provided to you, I would be very eager to learn about it!

Your in the wrong dialog box. What @Kimtaurus said, go to Object Styles and just hit delete.

So I've had a look at the family as well. It's indeed strange to see subcategories in the Visibility/Graphics but not in the Object Styles.

In a project however, I am able to delete these subcategories, in the Objects Styles window.

What you do next isthis:  open the family again from the Family Browser in your project, Revit will now have deleted the subcategories in the titleblock family as well. Resave the titleblock.
