Hi, Im pretty new to revit but have managed to model a house I purchased and insert the basics to lay it out for refurbishment. Im now trying to import some furniture and apply appearences to create realistic renders and choose colour schemes. I have managed to get fusion to a sat file and import as a new family. (altough orientated wrong, I believe roataing in fusion is the only way to solve this can I orintate as I create a family)
Im really struggling with applying any appearance to the family. I understand that familys cant be painted like the walls etc and must be changed in the family editor. In family editor I can use paint tool to apply appearances but they do not appear on the family in my main house project then. Can someone please help?
Thanks.
Remove the existing furniture out of your model and then reinsert...as it is remembering the original material. Project trumps over the family material.
Another option is to apply a parameter material to the furniture in the family itself so that you can specify a material in the project.

- Go to the project's material manager and see if Pine material is defined properly.
- If the furniture is under the existing phase (intentionally), make sure the view is set to Show Complete
Also, what category did you create the family from? It should be Furniture but somehow it looks like Electrical Equipment.
Hi Thanks for the reply, I have removed furniture, edited the appearance in family and then reinserted the family. It still just shows grey and whatever material I apply to the family doesnt show. Im not sure what excactly im doing wrong.

Im not 100% sure what you mean by this, could you explain a bit further? Basically what I want to do is apply different materials to different surfaces of my furniture (white and pine) and have this show in my project.

Thanks for the reply, I have created the pine material and applied it to some standard furniture from the revit families. That worked fine. I then copied materials over to the family I created using Sat file. Appears fine in the family but doent show in the project. Its also with any material not just the pine.
Could you exlain exactly what you mean under thhe existing phase and setting the view to show complete? Is this a simple setting im missing somewhere that overwrites the standard grey? Sorry Im new to revit and just learning as I go along. Pretty steep learning curve but have got everything I need done apart from inserting furniture from fusion and adding required appearances. Have spent two days now with no joy.
In the family...create a new parameter that is material based. When you use the paint tool you can select that parameter from the list. Paint your family then load into the project. Select the family and you should see the material info in the properties or the Edit Type window and select a project material.
