Importing furniture - files provided in 3 formats

Hi all;

WE need to integrate some Minotti furniture into a project. The files are provided in 3 different formats: 3D DWG, OBJ and 3DS. What would be the best format to use in Revit - ie how fast/easy/accurate are the different methods.

I've been reading all posts I could find on this, but was hoping to get input from someone that has tried the 3 different file formats before and give us input on what be the best/fastest/easiest route.

Thx,

Marc

Import DWG with layers to Furniture family so you can assign materials via Object styles/ Import in family/ layers.

Cool - thx Toan. Do you know of a good article/tutorial out there for this?

If you have access to 3DS Max, then 3DS also works pretty well. In that you would need to have objects named and organized in layers by material. If you are able to break up the 3DS files into parts, that would make it easier for you to control materials and properties.

Not specifically.  If I gave you something it would be from what I googled so you can do it as well.  It's a quite straight forward process:

- New furniture family

- Import DWG, center to center, pick correct import units

- If the DWG is too detailed for plan view then turn it off for Plan/RCP and use symbolic lines to draw a simplified version of it for Plan/RCP

- Load in project and assign materials as I mentioned earlier

Furniture people please note this. I would rather turn off furniture than have to edit your families in order to use them.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
