Importing from AutoCAD to Revit

Hi guys,

I'm not that familiar with importing from Autocad into Revit. I know how to do the basics, but I was wondering if anybody can shed light on if it's possible to align the import to points in Revit. I have a plat that was drawn in Autocad and it's an angle lot. When I import it, it has to be rotated to match my Revit model. This is okay, but it can cause for dependency as I'm just going by my eye for the aligning of line to line. Also, can you only import to one floor plan view?

Thank you for any help you might be able to offer.

Sounds as though you have site information that you need to add to your Revit model. Is this from a Surveyor? Did they export it to AutoCAD from Civil 3D?

Insert>>Link CAD

Once you have done this, make sure that you know the value of True North. NEVER ROTATE YOUR MODEL. In View Properties, switch over from Project North (which is always up) to True North.

VG>>Site>>Project Base Point

Check the Project Base Point. You will see a little triangle on your screen. Click on it, click on the little paperclip that you see to unclip, and change the value of the angle to True North. Click on the paper clip again. Your model will turn around to match True North. Switch your view back to Project North and it will turn again so that you can continue working on the model.

1. you can use the 'align' tool to line up the dwg to your 'reference'?

2. you can place it into either 1xview or all views.... all views can be a bit of a pain as you might want / need it switched off in alot/most views. view template could help there

3. if you use it to dimension to then whenever you reload you will lose ALL your dimensions and have to redo them ...... ;-( ......if ever i do have to (eg hard landscaping site plan) then i draw a little very light grey line as a detail item.... then dimension to that line instead of the import. still a pain - just not as much!!

Do not import it! Rather link it. Your model will be happier for it.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
