Importing CAD layout elements into Revit Sheet Views

Hi everyone,

We are trying to move from CAD to Revit and I'm trying to set the first pages of the Architectural Construction Document.

  • Is there a way to import CAD layout elements to Revit, like notes, symbols etc.?
  • How can I make the Sheet index look like our CAD file (Shown in the images), I need to show the drawing issue dates as the image with black background.
  • how can show the symbols as attached?

Thanks!

Here are your answers:

  • Is there a way to import CAD layout elements to Revit, like notes, symbols etc.?

ANSWER:  CREATE NOTES WITHIN REVIT USING THE DRAFTING VIEW COMMAND AND THEN DRAG/DROP ONTO SHEET.  USE THE LEGEND COMMAND TO CREATE A LEGEND OF SYMBOLS AND DRAG/DROP ONTO SHEET.

  • How can I make the Sheet index look like our CAD file (Shown in the images), I need to show the drawing issue dates as the image with black background.

ANSWER:  NOT ALL CELLS WITHIN A REVIT SCHEDULE CAN BE SHADED TO BLACK BACKGROUND.  ONLY TITLE/HEADER CELLS CAN SHADE.  DATA CELLS CAN SHADE ONLY IF CONDITIONAL FORMATTING IS USED BUT THAT DOESN'T WORK WELL.  IF YOU CAN CREATE A BLACK FILLED REGION THAT CAN GO BEHIND THE SCHEDULE VIEW ON A SHEET THEN MAKE ALL THE FONT IN THE SCHEDULE A COLOR OF 255, 255, 254...IT WOULD WORK.  HOWEVER, DISPLAY ORDER ONLY WORKS WITH 2D DETAIL ITEMS ON A DRAFTING VIEW.  I WILL CONTINUE TO RESEARCH THE ANSWER TO THIS PART....

  • how can show the symbols as attached?

ANSWER:  CREATE THEM AS IS IN AUTOCAD AND IMPORT/LINK THEM INTO A DRAFTING VIEW.  ANOTHER METHOD IS TO DRAW THEM FROM SCRATCH WITHIN A DRAFTING VIEW IN REVIT AND NOT USE THE EXISTING CAD DATA MOVING FORWARD.

Importing AutoCAD files is not recommended, especially for content that will be used from project to project. It is best to recreate in Revit. Imports don't always work as expected and can create a lot of unnecessary duplicates of imported stuff making them hard to track down and control. You can, however, link the CAD stuff to use as a guide to trace over with native Revit content.

Most people learn this lesson the hard way so import away if you must. You will eventually end up recreating everything in Revit, one way or another.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Other alternatives for black schedules....

Create a Generic Model Schedule with "Comment" as column.  Then add columns/rows above/below/right/left to create a grid of cells.  Modify the cells to have a black shade and texts colored as 255,255,254

Another thing is to create a simple drafting view with a black masking region.  Then create text on top of the masking region with color 255, 255, 254.  This is the long way of making a schedule because you are manually inputting all the data in all the cells.

still researching additional ways...

I figured it out...

Steps:

1.  Create schedule as normal

2.  Create Linestyle for Schedule under Manage Tab for color of linework to be cyan or any other color you want

3.  Create text type with color 255, 255, 254 as text color for Title, Header and Data

4.  Change shading of all cells to be Black

5.  Use Conditional Formatting for all other cells that cannot using Shading feature (set Filter to "Not Equal to....999999"

6.  Change Gridline appearance to use custom linestyle you created earlier

7.  Change Text appearance to use custom text styles you created earlier

Hello

Just to answer your second point of " Sheet Transmittal "

Revit Sheet Schedule will show the latest revision date, revision number etc..but

it wont show all the issued drawings time lined.. You are looking for " Transmittal "

which can be achieved using a plugin if that helps..

https://www.xrev.com.au/products/Xrev-Transmit

this wont generate Sheet transmittal in revit sheets, but it can generate

a PDF .

Cheers!
