Importing 3D DWG model and editing dimensions of model in Family Type

I'm trying to create different family types for an imported DWG model I have.

Example:

Suppose I have a table, created in AutoCAD, and I was to create different family types (24" x 24" , 36" x 36" , 48" x 48")

I cannot get it to work where the model switches dimensions as I apply a different family type..

Please help me?

** I have created reference planes and created different Dimension Options in the 'Family Type' window

(Depth, Height, Width)

In general, you are on the right track, but there are a few subtleties.

The most common mistake is that the geometry doesn't get locked to the reference planes.  In your particular case, your geometry is not linear but circular.  For circular objects, you can't lock the geometry in the same way that you can with linear geometry.  You are better off using a radius dimension as your parameter. If the center of the circle is placed at the intersection of the two reference planes (0,0) then your table can grow by Types with different radii.

In the attached image, the Radius parameter will make the table bigger / smaller. The Width parameter does nothing except move the reference planes around.

I hope this helps,

Andy

Imported elements have no parametric capability.  If you don't want to model them in Revit then you need to create different CAD files for different sizes, import them, then use Visibility parameters to turn them on/off for different Family types.

Might as well model them in Revit.
