Imported Roof Tiles

Hi there,

I am having trouble getting an imported roof tile (from a companys website) into the sloped glazing tool so that i can put multiple tiles into the roof more easily. I have seen videos where people create they're own(tile) and assign to a family and make this work but would rather import. I am using Revit LT.

I would import the file into curtainwall family and then load them into the project.

Once you've done that, use the slope glazing and you should be able to get the tile roof.

Is it an RFA file?  My guess is that it is a Curtain Panel Pattern Based family.  It would be applied to a Divided Surface. That's how we do individual roof tiles (when we do do it).

Post the RFA here and let us take a look and see.

If you're modeling them to enhance your renderings, you might look into Physically Based Rendering (PBR) Materials.

Thanks for your reply Barth Bradley.

It is an RFA file, from BIM objects website.

I am not doing rendering.

Thank you for your reply Syman 2000.

There doesnt seem to be an option in the curtain wall family to import a RFA file (the tile) but has other file types. Is there another way around this?. I am using Revit LT.

Share and nest this Family into a Curtain Panel Pattern-based Template, change pattern to 1/2 Step (that is sized correctly) and assign this Family to a Divided Surface representing your roof surface.

Here's one of several videos on-line showing how it is done:

So are you saying Revit LT don't have the ability to load in Revit family into curtainwall family? See attached file and see if you reverse engineer it to get what you want.

AH! Revit LT!  Missed that qualifier.  Another speed -reading accident.

So, OP can't use the approach I suggested. Oh well. :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:

In Revit LT the Curtain Panel Patten Based Family doesnt work, but i was able to use the Curtain Wall Panel family to import certain files (tiles), although The DWG Autocad file of mine i cant seem to find anywhere in the main project. I was able to open the tile file you sent and put straight into the project and into the Curtain Wall and Sloped Glazing sections. The roof project you sent was impressive also. Thank you
