Imported IFC dont show material fill pattern from the Walls

When I generate an IFC-File 2x3 (Highly detailed) from Revit, and link it into the same Revit Project, the material cut pattern for Walls are missing. Why is this? im testing it because some colleges who work with some 3third party software complains that the material cut patterns are gone in the IFC-file. And why cant even Revit itself display these patterns from its own IFC-file? or am I doing something wrong? Doesnt the IFC-Standard support patterns?

Which Revit are you Using? Are you using the stock IFC Export? All updates installed?

 

Download/Install Autodesk IFC Exporter from Github and try that one https://github.com/Autodesk/revit-ifc

Im using Revit 2020 with the native IFC-Exporter with all updates. I can only override the walls fill pattern, but then ill override all walls and wall materials. And I dont want to make a filter for all Walltypes. Ill try to use the IFC-Exporter mentioned.

Well it is an object when it is exported to IFC ... So yes the override will apply to the entire wall  UNLESS you convert the walls to parts and assign Revit Materials to each

 

However, I am not sure which app your colleagues are using and if they are capable of doing so at their end

" UNLESS you convert the walls to parts and assign Revit Materials to each". How would I do this in Revit, if the IFC would come from a Third party software with the IFC-Walls exported as Parts?

Linking an IFC into Revit generates a replica which is .ifc.rvt

 

You can use that file instead

I opened the ".ifc.RVT" files which was generated as you said, and tried mapping the materials to get the right fill pattern to the IFC-Walls. Sadly the mapping only has an influence on the surface patterns of the ifc-walls and not on the cut patterns of the IFC-walls. I also tried to directly change the cut patterns of the materials from the Walls and adjust the Views and filters. But it did not work.

It is either I am not getting what you are trying to do, or you are missing out on a step somewhere.

Im trying to give the Walls a fill pattern (Surface and cut) based ob the Wall material and not based on the subcategory.

Then convert to parts and parts material as suggested in previous reply (Make sure to set views in the main model to show parts when you link the .ifc.rvt file)

Ohh. that "Parts" 🙂 . I thought "convert to Parts" was meant as "Export parts as Building elements" when creating the ifc. I tried your steps in the Video and it works super. Sadly theres no Material mapping in the third party software. I hope for better Ifc-standards which allows for direct transfer of pat-files for building elements.
