Hello!
I have been working on a Revit project, and I have been adding lots of imported families so I can render scenes. These imports are CAD files, imported into a family then loaded into the project. It is also only the imported families that are having this issue.
Every time I open the file, all of the materials have switched! When I look into object styles, the Material name is the same, but it's swapped pictures and settings like glossiness with other materials. If I fix the material, and open a different one, it says 'Updating' in the top left corner of the settings and they all change again.
How do I get this to stop? I am at my wits end!

The Materials in the Family and Project must be exactly the same, for them to read correctly in the Project.
In the Family, set up a Material Parameter--instead of trying to apply the Material onto the object in the Family.
Save and Load the Family into the Project and make sure to choose "overwrite parameters".
Then, in the Project, fill in the Material under the Properties of the Family.

Revit puts all the imported object styles from families under Imported in Families category. So, if you have two families with two imported CADs but they have the same layer names then they will be assigned with the same material when you load them in project, regardless of the different materials assigned in the families. The way to fix this is renaming the imported layers in the families so that they are unique from one family to another and you can assign different materials to them in project.
Thank you!
It seems the issue was partly the names, but also an issue with our rendering software.
