Imported DWG not visible

I'm importing a DWG and it's not visible (Using Revit 2018.2).

Starting off from a fresh new project, based on our template that never displayed this problem before. Imported it in current view only, in a floor plan. It's definitely there, because I can select it and while hovering the move tool above it, the tool snaps on lines and corners. But everything is white on a white background. Also, while inside the import CAD dialog box, when I select this DWG, a preview is visible. The preview has a black background with colored lines for the design.

I tried every option in the import cad dialog box (invert, preserving or b&w colors; specifying layers (specifying some or just all), setting import units. I checked my view range to make sure it should be visible. Tried every setting in Visibility Graphics ( > Imported Categories).

Like I said, it's definitely there, because I can move it around and snap tools on it, it's just not visible. Because it might be a more challenging problem to solve, so I'm linking the file for those interested in solving the problem. Please be discrete and do not share outside this forum, or even thread: Link to invisible DWG

Thinking this is definitely a problem that started out with the settings our client, an architect, saved his DWG with. But I also prefer solving problems on our end. A tool like Revit should be able to solve this problem.

We do this often with DGWs from other clients. It always works. It's only for this specific DGW that we're not able to make it visible and use it as an underlay.

Is it on the right workset? Is the workset turned off? Are all the DWG layers turned on under Imported Categories in VG? Has it been hidden (click on the light bulb to check)? Some of the reasons why a link would not show up.

I linked your file both in our template -

Capture.PNG

and then in a blank project with no template

Capture.PNG

It seems that you have something nasty going on in your project. Even if you could share a stripped down project file for testing, that would be great.

Hi @Anonymous

Welcome to the Autodesk community and thanks for visiting!

Before linking/ importing DWG files, consider a clean up approach and this article which talks about 3 vital steps

Let me know if that helps resolve your issue.

Hello Rina,

Thank you for trying out the file. You succeeded in importing it without any issues. That means the problem is on our end.

Maybe our standard project template has some settings as standard where they shouldn't be. I'm looking into this and I will give further information when a I find any.

Regards,

Bram

Hi Viveka,

I'll read both articles and try out the workflow mentioned in the 2nd article. We usually don't work with AutoCAD, but if it can solve this problem, it might save us a lot of time in the future.

Thanks for your reply!

Regards,

Bram

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for your response.

From @Sahay_R post, it seems like there is no visibility issue.

I'm wondering if this can be something with regard to your graphics card certification/ driver update? Also, see hardware acceleration

Hello everyone,

We found a solution to our problem.

We work with our own template for every new project. This template has a scope box which is activated as default. Crop view is also activated when starting a new project.

This should be no problem. Deactivating these properties should solve it and make everything visible. Only, it doesn't.

I made a screencast to demonstrate the issue which is linked to this post.

Simply deselecting Crop View and setting the Scope Box to "none" and moving mouse cursor into the workspace should make everything visible.

But it doesn't, yet. After doing this, you need to switch Crop View back on, move mouse cursor back into workspace, go back to Properties and deselect Crop view, and activate this change by moving mouse cursor back to workspace; only now will everything be visible.

Hello Viveka,

Would you agree that what I demonstrated in that screencast qualifies as an issue in Revit?

If so, where can I submit this issue to request a solution for it in the next update?

On a daily basis I experience this specific issue. It Involves too much checking and unchecking of boxes in order to toggle between a view we want.

Regards,

Bram
