Hi everyone.

I have DWG file created by civil3d that contain some surfaces (for floors) and extrusion (for walls and stairs).

i try to import the file to revit and everything works fine (in 3D).

***BUT:***

Working on 2D create some problem , when i try to create some section it does work fine.

for example : Although the far clipping is 2 cm the section show all the view range from start to end.

as you can see i create the section in the middle of the building.

what im trying to do is to create some element/mass/anything that illustrate the civil 3D file.

hope i was clear enough.

i added the DWG file.

hope you can help.

Hi @amir.aroesti

Which version of Revit are you using?

Can you confirm if you have the latest updates installed from your desktop app?

Looking forward to your reply update.

Hi @amir.aroesti

Please update to Revit 2018. 3 and see if that helps resolve your issue.

You should be able to see the update listed in your Autodesk Desktop app.

Let me know if you have any questions.

@amir.aroesti good to hear that your updates are in place.

Which version of Civil 3D are you using?

The next step would be to consider simplifying a copy of the original Civil 3D file in AutoCAD.

Follow the Simplify Surface wizard sequence and the command line prompts to specify:

Let me know if any of the above helps resolve your issue.

is there any more simple way?

maybe creating conceptual mass?

create a floor by the surface?

Hi @amir.aroesti

I'm hoping simplifying before export would help us get desired results.

Can you try the below for me? In Civil, extracting an object from a surface

  1. Select a surface. On the Surface tab, Surface Tools panel, click Extract Objects
  2. If more than one surface is available in the drawing, in the Select a Surface dialog box, select the surface from which to extract components.
  3. In the Extract Objects from Surface dialog box, under Property, deselect the components that you do not want to extract (all visible surface components are selected by default).
  4. Under Value, do one of the following:
    • Choose Select All to select all the surface components for extraction.
    • Choose Select From Drawing, and select the required surface components.
  5.  Make sure every selected surface component is extracted from the surface object.

See the AU class

See similar forum thread

Hope that helps, if not we can test your file to investigate further.

Are you using Site Designer?

If u are not maybe u can install the extension, then  import it as LandXML and use Set Base Toposurface.

I have not done it myself but i tested it and it creates a mass depending on XML which you imported.

Did you import the DWG in directly in the model?  I would create an in place generic family and link the DWG in it.  See if it helps with the far clipping issue.

Problem is that toposurface should be that far because it is its origin
position, ill will try all your suggestions tomorrow see if it helps. The
goal is to design roads, side walks, property lines on that surface so ifc
could export all that information to model viewer

Usually my workaround for stuff like this is to open the DWG in AutoCAD MEP and export it directly to IFC and then read that into Revit. This only took me about 2 minutes and gave a pretty decent result. I'm not seeing a couple of walls from the screenshot you provided. I did however found out that I could audit, purge and overkill the file. Maybe something went botchy there.

I bet if I would throw in some 3D Studio I could get an even better result. However I think this should be sufficient enough for you to model all the other stuff on. I've attached the IFC and the RVT file as well.

For some reason it wouldn't let me attach the IFC and RVT file in a single post
