Hi. I have created a model for my project in 3DS MAX, but I am more familiar and experienced with Revit and do not know much about 3DS max in depth and due to time efficiency I would like to import it to Revit. It is quite a complex geometry. I would like to import it to Revit and use mass ' pick walls' and roofs to create a model with Revit elements. When I import it to Revit the shape has many grids and faces and revit picks ups every single traingle face instead the whole shape. Does anyone know how to go about this please? I have imported it as Sat and dwg and neither worked!! Is there a way importing it with Dynamo? Thanks
Follow these Steps
1. Export CAD from 3DSMax File ( CAD )
2. Create new Mass Family
3. Import DWG File and create MASS Family.. ( ex: Mass.rfa)
4. Import this Family in Revit and now you can use this mass to create anything..
Ex; Wall by Mass
Let us know how it goes.
Cheers!
Hi Ganesh,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, that's exactly how I have done it. But as you can see in capture it divides it to many triangular surfaces. I just want to create a one instance wall along the shape. for example I created another shape and it picks the small rectangles on the side to create the wall but not the top surface. I tried both roof and wall pick up face but does not pick up the surface.
That's because 3DS will export its geometry as a polyface mesh to DWG. That's where the problem is coming from.
Try exporting out of 3DS to a SAT. That will bring in the geometry as one piece in the conceptual mass environment, and in the project you will be able to create walls by face. Good luck!
