Import Cad Into Sections

Is there a different process for inserting (importing) a cad drawing into a section? I can do it OK with plans, but when I try to inset into a section I get the message that “None of the created elements are visible…” in the section view. The import is listed in Visibility Graphics, but I cannot find it anywhere in the model.

When insert or link a CAD section/ elevation drawing in a Revit section/elevation view, check the box "Visible in current View only".

That works up until the point I complete the insert. I can drag it into place, but after I complete the insert it does not appear in the view unless I set the view to wireframe. I can then see it beyond the plane of view, but can’t bring it forward, and I don’t see it in any other views.

Switch the View to Wireframe, select the CAD drawing and change Draw layer to Foreground.  When done, switch the view back to Hidden.

That did not work for me in RVT 2016. I did the following:

  • Import CAD file into revit plan view
  • explode it
  • Delete raster images
  • Create detail group
  • Cut and paste into section
