Implications of constraining inside sketch editor?

So I’m working on a steel plate that serves as a curtainwall “tie back”. I need this plate to be parametric and be able to stretch and report its dimensions in a schedule. The only way that I have been finding success is by doing my constraints in the sketch editor before hitting the thus making the extrusion. When I constrain here it seems to flex much smoother and the parts I want to flex do so and the parts of the profile I don’t want to flex don’t. My real question is once I nest and array the family I seem to loose the ability to edit some instance parameters that were created inside the sketch editor. I was wondering if there is a sacrifice made to constrain while in the sketch mode instead of after the extrusion was made as seems to be the norm. I will be adding the file shortly.

Something else is going on.  Post the Family here. We can take a look at it and advise.
