Is it possible to adjust the cut plane to completely ignore the roof above during object selection?
When selecting objects, the roof object seems to have the highest priority. To select objects 'below' the roof, I either need to tab or hide the roof object or category. I have tried multiple settings in the View Range dialogue in an attempt to get Revit to ignore the roof, but simply wont. The roof it always 'first choice'.
See below. Top of cut plane = 6', well below any portion of the roof element. The cursor is well away from any roof edges. The roof is not showing, but it is still there. Like a ghost. Haunting me from the shadows....

Select the Roof , Pin it and Uncheck Unpinned Elements

That’s a slightly more elegant option, I agree. Hoping there is a way to avoid the roof altogether, though.
Have you the Roof Plan as Underlay?
If so when you move the mouse cursor over the area if it is no object under , it will be the Roof...and I have seen , this happens even in Wireframe Visual Style...
If you've used Linework to show the Roof in Plan View as projection (overhead Lines) than the situation is worse and I think you have to Pin and uncheck Pined Elements.....
