Hello everbody,

 

I'm trying to exchange a model from Revit to a thermal modelling software via ifc.

Sadly the following problems occured:

- Windows and walls are partially not assigned to the right storey, when I open the IFC-file with another software. What confuses me the most is, that while checking the model with BIM Vision and the other softwares BIM Viewer the model seems correct. But when you check the building elements information, I see that it is "placed" in the storey below eventhough it is shown in the upper storey.

This only applies for some of the elements and there are three exported stories with their own elements.

 

- As the model is design for a thermal modelling project the information of an element being ex-/internal is crucial. Windows seem to be exported as internal. I tried to create a IFC-parameter IsExternal with "text" = Yes and one with a check box (which I cannot change when assigned to an element) both apparently don't overwrite the pset.

 

I'm using Revit 2019 in the student version.

 

Any idea or expiriences with the above?

@barthbradley Well even if the original poster is now Anonymous, I ran into a similar problem today. It is 2025 and I am exporting from Revit 2024.3 and when looking at the IFC4 file with bimcollabZOOM, many doors and windows float in mid-air while their hosts are on a different level and appear as raw walls. When looking at everything, ie without isolating the individual storeys, the model seems whole though.

In my case the target software is DIAlux, which was your question to the original author, I believe.
