IFC EXPORT PROBLEM

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I have the same problem - nothing happens when I try to export my files to IFC. I was able to export the same file to IFC just a week ago. The issue appeared suddenly, without having installed any updates or new plugins in the mean time.

I now have all the latest updates installed, and also the ICF exporter you reccomended. It did not resolve the issue. Not for the file I could export earlier and neither for a new project file.

Two of my colleagues have the same problem, and the issue appeared around the same time.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting on our community forum! Smiley Happy

Good to hear that you have all the latest updates installed.

  • Can you confirm if you have  IFC export with version 16.6.0
  • The .NET code used by the Revit 2015-2018 family of products to support IFC can be downloaded HERE
  • See HERE for more information on Revit and IFC files

Is it possible to share your file with us? I can send you a private folder to test.

Also, please send us your journal file. Here is the information on how to locate your Journal file.

Looking forward to your reply update.

Thank you for responding so quickly.

I have IFC exporter version 17.4.0, and I've now also installed version 16.6.0 and the .NET code. It's still not possible to export my project to IFC.

Yes, I can share my file in a private folder. Also, see attached journal file.

Hi @Anonymous

I was able to test your Revit model and your IFC export. The export works fine.

  • As the first step, I would suggest checking the Desktop App to see if there are any Revit updates available. For information on using the Desktop App see the following article: About the Autodesk Desktop App
  • Note: If you are not able to download updates through the Desktop App, the following article has information on downloading updates through the Autodesk Accounts page: Install Updates, Add-ons, and Enhancements
  • Secondly, On checking your journal file, it appears that your BIM IFC exporter add-in has failed to initialize.
  • To resolve this issue, Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and uninstall all add-ins named “Autodesk BIM IFC Exporter Add-in”.
  • Chances are there will be two add-ins with the same name but of different versions.
  • Download the add-in again and install it.
  • Restart Revit and try exporting again.

Let me know if this helps resolve your issue.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question. Kudos welcome!

Thank you for testing my model and checking the journal file.

The Desktop App says "Your available utdates are installed", so I've already installed all the available Revit utdates.

There's no program in my program list by the exact name "Autodesk BIM IFC Exporter Add-inn", but I uninstalled two add-ins called Autodesk BIM 360 Add-Inn. There were two of them in different versions, and I uninstalled both of them. I then reinstalled the IFC add-inn you linked to and restarted Revit, but there's still no response at all from the program when trying to export to IFC.

I've tried to export to my computer locally and to our sheared central company folder - with <In-Session Setup>, our own project setup and some of the standard setups. Nothing works.

Two of my colleauges experience the same issue, but for other colleagues the IFC export works just fine - aslo with my project models which I cannot export from Revit myself.

Please see attached screenshot of program list with all Autodesk programs and add-inns.

Hi @Anonymous

Good to hear that your latest updates are installed Smiley Happy

I'm wondering if this could be a memory issue.

Can you try the following for me?

Use the "Extra Low" setting at IFC export advanced settings/ Level of detail for some element geometry, see image below

IFC detail.JPG

Also, can you verify if the IFC export settings - a screenshot will help.

Looking forward to your reply update.

Hi,

To use the "Extra Low" setting didn't make any difference, still no response or exported file. See attached screenshots of my IFC settings.

Hi @Anonymous

Your IFC settings seem OK.

Your journal indicates that you have a Nvidia QuadroM300

  • Can you try running this update and see if there is an improvement, or else I can share a utility to collect your log files.
  • Try disabling Hardware Acceleration within Revit. If this clears the behavior, then it indicates the issue is with the Graphics Card / Graphics Driver. Start by updating the graphics card (or by loading a certified driver version, if the card has been certified).
  • Note: If a certified driver is already loaded, uninstall and then reinstall the driver (in case the installation is damaged).
  • Also please check the visibility of your scope boxes

Hi,

The issue is now solved. The problem was that I have a BIM add-inn/extension that already includes IFC export. Having two IFC export add-ins installed at the same time caused the issue, so when I uninstalled the one you linked to, the IFC export function went back to work as normal.

Thank you for all your help with troubleshooting.

Hi @Anonymous

I'm checking back on your post to see if you've tried resolutions mentioned in this thread - yes, the add-in is contributed by Autodesk and our Open Source contributors.

Let me know if you have additional questions. Looking forward to your reply update.

I have similar problem. I also cannot export any IFC file - Revit simply closes when trying to export any model.

I checked, if I have two or more IFC applications - there is only one "Revit IFC 2020" on my 2020 version

Hi @Viveka_CD ,

I am experiencing a same problem in Revit 2024 to IFC export and here i have attached my journal for your quick check.

MEP models roughly taking 2-5 hours on exporting IFC format.

Appreciate if you could check and give me an update. Thanks in advance.
