Hey guys,
I would like some help I am trying to export a 3D model to an external consultant, and they want to use the same names and types we created in Revit because it will save them a lot of time, however, they can only import three parameters of the IFC model in their software.
I manage to change the name using IfcName and it works, but I didn't find a way to change the families name to their parameters, I tried IFCExportType, IfcExportAsType, IfcType, IfcObjectType, however, none of them works. I have attached some print screens for you guys have a better understanding of what I'm trying to do.
Much appreciated if someone could help me with this issue.
Regards,
Hey there,
my first suggestion would be trying to follow the following tutorial:
This explanation covers how to set the IFC Class and the IFC Type of specific families. I hope this helps out. Otherwise get back to me and we will try to figure out whats the issue. In this case it would be great if you could upload a sample model, and / or specify which IFC Parameters you want to map to which building elements. (e. g. I want my "Drywall 10" exported as the IFC Class XY and the IFC Type XY and want the parameters XY to be XY)
If it is not possible from within Revit we have already developed a solution to convert the IFC files after they are generated to suit your needs.
Greetings,
Thomas
Hi Thomas,
I had a look at the link you have sent, and I had read that page before, but my question remains unsolved.
Trying to explain better what I'm trying to do is to map Revit family types (e.g. Wall Type 1, Wall Type 2, Floor Type 1, Floor Type 2...) with the categories Wall, Roof and Floor.
The problem is the software of the external consultant can only use few parameters from IFC without doing everything manually, they can use in their software the name (Mark), categories (e.g. Wall, roof), and which level the element is located (Level Ground, Level 1), but they can't use the different types of the roofs, walls and floors that we created in Revit.
I'm not sure if this is possible but can I override Revit categories (e.g. Wall) and substitute to type instead (e.g. Wall Type 1), then when I open the IFC model and I select one wall will show me Wall Type 1 instead of Basic Wall.
Not sure if it's clear what I'm trying to say.
Cheers,
Hey,
Appears to me that IfcExportAs doesn't work with system families like walls, floors, etc.
I did not succed in mapping a wall in another Ifc Class.
I wish i could have more help on those export options! ![]()
