Hello!
If we create a new family, would it be exported to IFC and gbXML, exactly as a built-in family? Or we need to modify some settings for it?
Thanks,
Arghavan

Hi @arghavan.A
Thanks for posting on our forums.
What kind of family are you trying to export? Which version of Revit are you using?
By default, Revit uses the appropriate IFC mapping file when you export a project to IFC. For building elements that do not have an automatic mapping to IFC export classes, the value displayed in the IFC Class Name column is 'Not Exported'.
Looking forward to your reply update.

Dear Viveka,
I appreciate your reply, but I have not yet found my answer, which is the reason I left this post as it is, To work on my project, before posting a reply to you. Therefore, this solution is not accepted from my point of view, yet.
I'll post soon.
Hi @arghavan.A
Sure, let us know when you have an update.
Good luck with your project!

Hi again!
I'm using Revit 2018.
For this specific question, I am trying to export a window family that I created from scratch myself to IFC format.
But what about gbXML?
Hi there @arghavan.A
Its been a while and I'm checking back to see if you needed more information.
Please, see information on Exporting to Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and find attached a document that talks about gbxml and IFC data exchange.
Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question. Kudos welcome!

Hi! Thanks for getting back to me.
Yeah, I've read that paper as a basis for my research. I want a practical guide on how to correctly make a Revit model for IFC and gbXML export.
The IFC link was helpful though. Thanks!
However, I have another question. When we make an architectural model in Revit, and if we go one step further and generate an energy model inside it, will new energy related data be written in IFC file?
Regards,
Arghavan
Hello dear @Viveka_CD,
I also have another question. If an IFC class is not mentioned in this list provided by Autodesk, then, does it mean that we cannot map our object to an Ifc class?
For example, I want to assign IfcShadingDevice to my mass object that is a shading, but it is not in that list, nor it is in the IFC options in Revit.
Hi @arghavan.A
It seems like the IFC class are you specifically talking about (IFC shading devices) is not highlighted in the list other than the supported ones
Let me gather some information with regard to your query and will get back to you on this.
Yes, an energy model can be created inside Revit and whether IFC files support energy data the Insight forum experts can provide more feedback.

Thank you! I appreciate it if you consult this question with your team.
I want to use this IFC file for IDA-ICE software, and gbXML for EnergyPlus.
I know that IfcShadingDevice is not among supported ones, so, I want to know how can I assign it my object in Revit 2018?
In case it would help, please find my model with the shading created by sweeps, here.
P.S. additional discussion about this shading:

I am not sure if this helps or not, but for a long time (and I think this is still true) for the Revit energy analysis models to recognize something as a shading device it had to be modeled as a floor or a roof, otherwise it was ignored during energy calculations. This is somewhat different than your question, but it might shed light on why the class is unsupported. Revit is just doing it some other way.
