IFC and Design Options

IFC and Design Options

Hi all,

I have a project which has 3 design options for the elevation style. I created 3D views for each of them and I'm trying to export them to IFC but it only exports the first 3D view completely cuz it's the primary. It exports the other views but just the elements in main model are in them. Design Options doesn't work with IFC? What is the solution?

You could copy the project into 3... option 1, 2 & 3.  Horrible work around I know... hopefully someone will chime in with a real solution.

or I can accept each option as primary, export and the undo and do it again, right? but both ways are very annoying 😞

why are we paying this much $ then?

Of course you can.  All you need to do is make the design option active before exporting.

my design options are not this simple, I have an option set for elevation styles, then another few set sets for interior changes based on each floor, so for instance, when I activated the TA Gas Fireplace, it only exports the portion of fireplace and the main model which is the foundation walls. I can not activate 2 option sets at a time. so it means i have to have only one set and all the options in that set, which I don't think it would work for me. please correct me if I'm wrong.

It is true that it only works for one Option Set. Sorry.

I know some people are always angry at autodeks when their software doesnt work, but design options are not supported by the IFC format. Because of this the IFC viewer wont know what to do what the provided.
IFC also isnt some magical creature. You have to specifie what information you want to give in the exported IFC. for example IFC2x3 vs IFC4 can serve different purposes.

Try contacting BuildingSmart international.

The issue is not about getting IFC to understand design options. The problem is limitations on what you are allowed to specify for the import. The goal is to export a single combination of options.

When you have multiple option sets, it does not seem possible to export a combination of different options. They can be visible in the view, but only the main model and elements from the current option set is exported. That means everything else that is part of another option set is not exported.

Anyone with a workaround without messing up the design options?

I have the design option in a linked model, and I set it correctly. However, the IFC export of the linked model exports only main model. Is there a work around for this?
