Identifying element type in forumla

Hi all!

I want to use a formula based on the element type using IF conditions. Eg: IF it is a Wall (Area*XX), IF it is a Foundation (CY*XX), IF it is a Column (EA*XX).

What parameter should i use to identify what type of element is it? Assembly Code and Description don't show up in formulas.

The only other option is to create multiple formula each for a element type and other one to add the individual cells.

is there a better way to do it?

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

Are you going to use this formula in Project or Family.

If it is a family,

           1) That three type of elements are in one family?

Thank You! and please 'Accept As Solution' when you found a solution, to help others.

If the formula is used in a schedule of walls, structural columns, or structural foundations, there is no need to identify the type of element, it´s implied.

More information about what you are trying to do would be useful.

hi. It's a material takeoff schedule so multiple elements are in one schedule. I want it to be like that, so it's a one stop shop schedule for all the quantities we deal with.

Just create different material take-off schedules for those items.

I want to have that in one schedule only. I used dynamo to categorize and
give a number for different element types and used bunch of IF statements
in one cell. It works. I just wanted to do without Dynamo.
