I have line patterns and fill patterns that keep reappearing.

I can't find a way to permanently get rid of them. I also cannot find a way to make them reappear. Every so often a bunch of them such as "kreska kropka kropka"(Polish for Dash Dot Dot) will repopulate. I've tried searching through my families, auditing, compressing the model, recreating our template, etc. Nothing will remove them permanently. There is no pattern I can find with what triggers them to reappear. Most recently it was modifying object styles but doing that again does not bring them back.

Can anyone help me with this?

Hello @Anonymous

I would assume they are in an instance or family which is loaded into your project. They can't appear from nowhere right?

If that's the case (i.e.: not a heavenly or supernatural intervention which is causing them), the bad news would be that they won't go away with a purge or audit or whatever (even if you clean them with the help of Dynamo or API)...they will keep reappearing until you unload the instance which is causing them or until u edit that instance and clean them up from the root.

If it issssss a heavenly or supernatural intervention what is causing them to appear, then all you've got are the guardian angels at Autodesk Support 🙂

Thats what I would assume unless it is in some history data in the project. I know some items stick around in you delete something rather than purge it. I've spent a great deal of time looking through families for these line patterns. How would you suggest tracking them down? If I could find a reliable way to make them reappear I could purge families to find the lines but I cannot make them reappear.

I haven't heard of an automated way which can check and relate linetypes and patterns to certain families...As far as I know it has to be done manually in the Family editor. Check for any odd families which are not modeled by you or your company...

There are also some add-ins for patterns and linetypes which cause also similar issues (populating the project with unwanted or undesired paterns and styles) ... You might also want to check and if any similar apps/add-ins exist remove them.

This might be a long shot, but when they appear or disappear, could you check the Journal files to see what happened???

I've looked through them but I can't really see what caused it. Attached is the section of the journey file it happened in. Immediately before going through the object styles I checked the line patterns and they were not there.
