Hi people!
I have some confusion about joining posts and beams. When I want to join a beam to a post, and I want to to just touch exactly (lie flush).. it seems that I have to place it some mm out of being flush (is this just to be more realistic??)… because when I drag it just so it touches, it automatically jumps to being placed centrally in the beam.. (which then doesn’t help me dimension things because in these certain areas, even if it looks fine, I have extra volume of material accounted for due to the overlap).
A similar thing happens with flooring… sometimes I have an overlap. I thought that the revit system might automatically subtract where two things are existing in one place.
Sorry this is a bit of a general question.. I am still a little new to revit so I was wondering whether someone knows if I have a certain setting incorrectly set, or why this happens, or maybe even direction to a video/topic where I could educate myself more on this.. Thanks!
Hi.
If you don´t want that to happen you should use several options.
1. Always the beam and the post should have the same material, because when that happened if it doesn't have the same material you will have to put a structural connection.
2. It it has the same material it will autojoin cause that´s the correct way.
3. You want to separate elements with the same material for any other preference.
You have to right-click the blue dot, or the control dot and click the Do not allow option, and it will let you manipulate all the elements as you want.
And sometimes you will need to use the blue arrows to control the beam alone.
I hope this works, if not you may contact me directly
