Make use of filters to select based on certain parameters (e.g category, family name). Then use visibility graphics overrides to add the filter(s) and assign colors

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Hi

you can use Visibility graphics, surface pattern override ..

and for few categories where surface is not available, you may use

object styles..

Graphics Override - surface patternGraphics Override - surface pattern

But if you can use workset, making the file central,

move elements in corresponding workset and use workset as a filter..

this would give you a much better flexibility  and clarity..

Workset - filterWorkset - filter

Hi

you need to do testing for Graphics..

Each and every view are independent, so PLAN, ELEVATION, SECTION and 3D

each needs custom settings ..

Use " by host " and change VG and check if you can control the graphics..

example : VG, Wall surface solid colour, this should update the link model Graphics as well..

for ducts it little tricky.. there are no surface pattern to change.. so use " Object Style "

Object styleObject style

use by host view.JPG

Best luck

Try Filter and give that filter colours..

in shaded 3d mode you should get these colours..
