How to - see type of a family from linked model, under dedicated category

Is there a way to see a Revit Family type from Linked Model, under dedicated category(in this case, Generic model category)? Or it is only visible in the Linked model settings?

I got a Revit family in linked model that I want to turn off on my current model. Is filtering it out the only solution?

Do you mean you want to reveal the linked model subcategories?  You can see them by set the link display to custom and turn off the subcategories you don't need.   However, it is easier to use filter or even tab select the family and hide in view.

It is preferred not to set the link display to custom and then turn off them "there". In addition, I wanted to avoid hiding something in a view.

I wanted to know if it is possible to do it from the View Template assigned to a view. But I guess that filters are the only solution to this.

Hey barthbradley! Thanks for answer. This is not exactly what I want. I think I am explaining it poorly.

I got some subcategories of Generic Model category in RVT Link Display:

But these subcategories are not visible in my View Template:

I am asking whether it is possible to see my subcategories from RVT Link Display, inside my View Template. That is it.

Are you saying that you need to get rid of the black box? If not, your question doesn't make much sense.

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

No. The black square is there as I cannot display any information about the project. Ok to explain it again:
I got a subcategory called "Waffle Slab" under Generic Models in my RVT Display Link:

I do not have this subcategory in my View Template under Generic Models:

I was asking whether is there a way to have Waffle Slab subcategory in my View Template... I do not really know how to explain in clearer.

You need to create it in a generic family but it won't be the same one as the one in the link.

Why do you want this?

You can create the subcategory in your project all day long and twice on Sundays, but it ain't going to do diddly squat.  If you want to want to turn off the Link's subcategory of the same name, you need to turn it off through VGOs as described above.  I don't know why you are so reluctant to do a simple override of a Link in a View.  You're hamstringing yourself.

Thanks a lot RobDraw and barthbradley for your answers! So now I know that it is not possible to do it the way I wanted.

Answering your question - I do not want to override a Link in a View as this is the policy at my company. There are so many linked models that we will lose sight of what is overridden in what Link, so it is preferred to do it directly in the View Template(not in the Link). In addition, it is also easier to manage these links that way. So in the end we want to have every Link as "By Host View":

That's a silly policy. I don't think it's been very well thought out. Like I said, it is doing nothing but hamstringing your work.

Try putting the generic family with the subcategory into your model. That might give you the kind of control that you want.

Your workflow is a valid approach for some projects but the reasoning for it is questionable. Inadequate model management is not an excuse for simplifying workflows.

Maybe you are right! Anyway, thanks you all for solving my problem :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:
