How to reference a family type parameter value in another parameter's equation

I have a nested family which is associated with a "family type" category parameter. So basically I can switch out the nested family with other families or types.  I would like the value of this parameter to be used to control other parameters.  

 

I cannot figure out how to reference the value of the family type parameter in equations so that revit will recognize it.  Does anyone know what syntax I am supposed to use in this instance?

You can't, unfortunately.

 

Lots of people bringing up shortcomings with the parameter system today. Listening, Autodesk?

I was afraid that was the answer!  I wish they would make some changes to the family editor.  2025 was a good step in the right direction with the adjustment to arrays, but we could really use a drop down parameter, radio buttons, and for heaven sake, let us sort parameters by dragging!

@mhiserZFHXS I have a good friend who is also a family making pro, I posed the question to him at the same time I posted here.
