How to refer IfcElements to IfcBuildingStorey?

Hello,

i´ve got a problem with refering elements in the right storey. In general in know how to do it, but i dont like it at all, and will lead to big problems in complex projects. For example:

Right now im working on a project where many buldings are located on a hillside. That means i´ve got a lot of different levels and some of them overlapping with levels of other buildings. So my workaround is to put every building in an own Ifc file (even that is no elegant solution for me), but there is only one garage for all the buildings, which is connected across the whole hillside. So if i would make an own file for the garage, there would be still the Problem with the overlapping levels of the storeys.

Is there maybe a parameter who allows me to refer an element to a building storey of my choice?

Would be very thankful if u could help me with your experience!

Br,

Emanuel

What you have been doing is not a workaround! When a project consists of several building, to have them as several models linked into a Host model. That is the proper workflow and it does offer lots of advantages in several aspects.

However, if you want to have all in one model, there are several workaround...example:

  • simply can change the naming convention of the level datums it might then get less confusing!
    • Level 1-B1
    • Level 1-B2
    • Level 1 B3
  • Add a project instance text parameter call it LEVEL_CHOICE to the categories you want (roof, floor, ...etc) and type in it which ever value you want. Before you export to IFC,
    • create a schedule for the subject elements
    • this schedule doesn't need more than the fields family/type and the Parameter you added "LEVE CHOICE"
    • Add the word IFC to the schedule's header
    • Now when you export to IFC, go to modify setup and select "Export Schedules as Property Sets" (as well as the box below it in order not to export all your schedules.
    • Once it is exported you will have that Parameter you added in the IFC property set of that element
    •
  • IFC.png

Thank you for your answere!

For me the proper way would be to be able to define a new building with their own storeys, like in other CAD Software, instead of exporting the linked models as own Ifc Files.

Your way of define the levels for every element, does not influence the ifc structure. Of course there are many ways to group or select all elements of one storey, but i dont wanna go threw a data jungle when it should be able to do it the proper way :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:
