This page on the Help file explains the process rather well:
It may be beneficial to read the sections of the Help file on the whole topic of Shared Positioning.
Be aware that "Publish Coordinates" does not exist anymore if you are working with cloud models in BIM360 projects, only "Acquire".
Thank you! I linked my house, placed it where I wanted and acquired coordinates (I think I did). The message appeared. Please look in attachment. Is that the message says that It is acquired ? I have no problem rotating my house but can not figure out how to move the house up or down ? Please advice how to move the house vertically !
Generally, if you are linking a house into a site plan, you Publish the coordinates from the host to the link.
...but before you Publish, you move and orient the building to the site -- in the x, y and z direction.
Does your Building or Site model govern the Shared coordinates? Normally, if it is the Site model then do this:
- Link the Site in the Building, center to center
- Move/Align the Site to match the Building location
- Acquire coordinates
Six of one; half-dozen of another. But "Normal" for us in that scenario, is to Link the Architectural into the Site and Publish -- generally to a Named Site.
Not following. Sounds like you are just selecting the wrong element to move. A CAD Element. Might help if you turn off the Imported Categories in the View through View Visibility and Graphics Overrides.
Here is what I have on my screen. What should I do to move my house up or Topo surface down ? CAD file visibility was off. When I change elevation number - elevation line is moving - not the house or topo surface.
In that Section View you are showing, can you not select the Link and drag it all by itself?
You can type in an exact distance. Moving a Link is no different than moving any other element in Revit.
...just remember, you need to Publish Coordinates again if you move the Link.
Please HELP !!! My client architect works in CAD and he likes my renderings in Revit. He asked me if he sends me CAD files with his houses modeled in 3D in CAD can I open it in Revit and apply materials and components from Revit family including lights, furniture and plants and render it or the only way is to model his house design all over in Revit ??? Because when I imported survey from CAD in 3D I could generate surfaces (create my toposurface) from it and do everything with it as it would be my own Revit project. I wander if I can do the same with house model imported in CAD file in 3D ??? I do really need to know if that going to work and how to do that better and faster. Thank you !
I have no idea. Maybe Yes. Maybe No. Maybe part of it. Maybe most of it. I would have to examine the Client's DWG.
I had no idea that nobody tried that before. Could you, please to investigate that ? It is a really good question because so many architects have their many models created in CAD and would like to move them to Revit without headache ? Please if you can ?
