How to place beams on top of other beams (while using snaps)?

I need to place a beam from end of one beam to the end of another. But as soon as I use snaps the beam is detached from the plane.

I set work plane to the top of one of the beams and while I place a new one on top of them without snap, everything works fine.

If I place it "at an angle", also without snap, it also sits perfectly on bottom beams.

But when I use end snap to snap it to ends of beams, it gets wonky.

This happens even if I first just place the beam and then drag it to end points. Once I snap it to the second end point I get the "Element will be detached from its associated plane" warning, and the beam ends up like in the screenshot.

Having 3D snap on or off make no difference.

"Element will be detached from its associated plane" appears multiple times in a specific Revit mode...

I think this issue relates to the beams becoming multi-planar at a specific angle, as you can see from the image below going from corner to corner even without Snaps On I get the same warning message!

An alternative here could be to create a Beam System and set the direction as the angle required and then remove the Beam System afterwards

But edit length and you get the warning again so use the workaround - Cut > Paste Aligned Same Place
