how to opt a wood joinery family to be male/female (void/solid vise versa)

Hello,

I made a family (red) with complicated shape (cut by void), so this element (red) contains inside voids and solids.

Then in the project, this family inseted to a colum (yellow), so there will  be a void with the same shape as this nested family (red), i.e a reversed void element cut inside the colume with all the inside void and solids be reversed (male to be female and vise versa)

That means this complex family ought to have two reversed function (void or solid /male or female) --- with the inside void/solid opts to be reverse

this is similar like "subtraction/intersection" of two morps, but in rfa how an elements be switched from void to be solid (now seems cannot opt from void back to solid).

This should often happens in MEP machine, like a screw inserted in to a part then a female void with same sape  is created within this part.

That is too ambicious I understand, but much appreciate if any advice

Thanks

Create a face based family , add a void, cut the host with that void, create solid the same shape as the void. Load it in the project or another family, host it on a face and it will cut the host and fill in the hole with the solid.

Another way is using a generic family with just a solid, no void, load it in the project the join it with a host. Then switch join order to get the proper cut.

OK follow your advice and by joining and cut generic model (not colume) it works....
now Revit seems fully applicable for parametric factory production, perfect
