hi
i have manipulated shipping containers group(shipping cont family+void ext. family)
i am trying to move them up angular(to ref plane)and it gives error
i read : if in family properties i have checked "worked plane based"
family -> pick new
his is no working for me
any ideas please?
thanks a lot

Draw a Ref. Plane at the angle you want, name it and host the container that that named Ref. Plane (via Edit Workplane).
You can't doing it without breaking up your groups of nested groups within nested groups.
By the way, you know that nested groups are problematic and recommended not to do.
this is so complicated...
i must be another way
shipping container is cut with void when loaded
please help what to do?
Actually there is another way, but it will require some work. You need to nest the family three-deep to be able to revolve the host about an 3-Point axis. It's pretty sophisticated modeling. Requires creating, manipulating and associating parameters so all nested families communicate on the same page. I have a few families I've built like this. One in particular is light-weight concrete shake roof tiles Took some time to get it prefect.
I'd post my inspiration for it here, but I can no longer find and download @Alfredo_Medina top blog of all time -- the one about rotating a Pencil revolving about a 3 Axis. Bummer. Maybe @Alfredo_Medina is being a little more selective about who he lets use it? Fingers crossed that he lets you. Knowing how much it helped me, I would gladly pay to own a copy.
Hello
As of now you have a Group within group..
try not to have nested group ..
secondly use " disjoin" while moving, rotating the group,
only then it will disregard its association with plane / levels etc and allow
a smooth transition..
Disjoin ( master few skills of dis joining, unconstrain, etc )
Here...every elements is now hosted to the FRF5 Ref. Plane. All you you have to do, is rearrange the furniture.
thanks, its exactly what i needed
but when i try to do the same(first ungrouped all then create one group only-> rotate disjoint is checked) it didn't worked for me
what am i am doing wrong? please
@Ganash: DISJOIN??? you were able to rotate it off its axis by Disjoining??? That doesn't make any sense. How did you manage that?
He wants to rotate the canisters in a diagonal z direction in ELEVATION VIEW to align with a named Ref. Plane he has in that view. Not Rotate it about its x and y axis.
all the families in the group need to be Work Plane-Based and not Always vertical.
Change those values for the family [ edgeProfileTop ] and it should work
after ungrouped all i cant find any joined elements
then i make only one group
and i still not works for me
what did i do wrong?
please help me

How come he mentioned “ thanks, its exactly what i needed” in replying me ??
I have now Idea, buddy, But, I suggested that at the very beginning , but after examining, I found that it didn't work because of the nature of the family. But, now you say it does work. I would just like to know what your secret to success was. Care to share?
so i unchecked "edgeProfileTop" always vertical as suggested
and then the solution above worked
thanks you all
you have saved me!
All I can say is that I got f'ing robbed here. If any of you guys care to look back on this thread, you'll clearly see that you are day late and a dollar short -- that I gave the EXACT same solution above! Including a Revit file!
Thanks for the thorough waste of time. Don't let the door hit you in the buttocks on the way out.
i saw your file you uploaded...
see my problem was that they all messed up because "pick new... to reference" doesn't move them all together
and this is exactly he problem...
the solution make them move all together
is your solution just rotate or use a ref plane? it seems to have ref...
and this is not what i was looking for
please correct me if i am wrong
and of course thank you for your reply
