Hi,

i am a technician who draws plans for extensions for planning permission purposes. i am starting to offer a 3D proposed visual to give my clients a first look at what it will look like. i have broken an external wall to add 2 extra materials on the front. Cladding and a stone brickwork. I am trying to merge the wall back to one but it is giving me an error message about it not been possible due to the materials not been same. could someone plese help or advice the best thing to do.

see screen shots below.

thank you

You can't, but you can delete the Parts. This won't delete the Original Wall.

...then control Parts Visibility by View (e.g. Original, Both, Parts).

You did not need to break into parts. You could have simply used Design Options + Split Face tool and then Paint (this is a different approach though. If you are happy with parts, stick to parts method)

Nonetheless...

  1. If you want to keep the parts but see the original state of the wall in certain views while keep parts in another...then do the following
    • On the Properties Palette of the view
    • change the view's Part Visibility to display Original (See image below)
    • RDAOU_0-1648653290708.png

  2. If you want to get rid of all the parts ...
    • simply tab select 1 part
    • Delete the selected part and Revit will force delete all parts and revert wall to original
  3. If you just want to merge 2 parts ie: changing your proposal...then, simply follow instructions shown in the warning and
    • ensure that the parts being merged have the same phase,
    • have the same material (ie: check the property to use Material by Original or select multiple parts and use the same material of your choice if Original Material is not the target)
    • and make sure they form a single connected component (ie: not a part 2 layers away...they need to share a face/edge)

You can change Part Material.  Select the Part and look under it's Properties.  Untick "Material by Original" and change Material.
