How to measure areas made out of closed polylines from a linked cad file?

Hello everyone

I am kind of stuck on my research, I have seen a few videos about this topic by most of them relate to dynamo, I wonder if there is a quick way without scripting anything in dynamo.

I have to measure the area of a closed polyline in cad (I highlighted a little of it but it should be the area enclosed by all those polylines), this polyline may vary in the future so the idea is to link this live cad file and take off quantities with Revit Schedules

Is this something easily achievable in Revit, should I use other software? should I get into dynamo straightaway?

If that linked CAD file happens to be a dwg file, I would use AutoCAD to do the math.

In Revit, I would use a Filled Region to cover the area.

You could also use Areas (Area Plans) and then schedule "Areas", where you can see their parameters such as area [m2].

1. Create Area Plan

2. Create Area Boundary

3. Schedule Areas

As for how to automatically link boundaries of Areas to changed CAD file.. I haven't found a quick way without any scripts. You could ease your manual work by setting different colours for different layers in Imported categoires (CAD file) and then when the polylines change in cad file you can see them more clearly.

Still would have to manually recreate them all. Not even pick lines works on dwg links when sketching area boundaries.

Depending on how many of these OP has to do, it could be faster and easier to just download FreeCAD and do it there (if he doesn't have access to AutoCAD).
