There is no direct way to assign a line style as "non-plot" in Revit. Are the guidelines part of the titleblock family? If not, I suggest you make them part of the family. If they are, in the Family Editor for the sheet, you can give the guidelines a Yes/No parameter (either Type or Instance, that is up to your preference) then assign this parameter to the lines' visibility settings. That way you can easily turn the lines off for plotting/printing and back on when adjusting the sheet in Revit.

Edit:

If you don't want to include the lines in the titleblock family, you can assign the lines to a new Subcategory, then hide that subcategory in the V/G menu by clicking on the + sign next to "Lines" then un-checking that new subcategory. But, similar to an instance parameter, you will need to do this on each sheet one-by-one, which is why a visibility parameter in the titleblock family is easier to work with for this situation.

Why not use the Guide Grids that are already a part of Revit?

Hi @fortywebs

Thank you for the question. If you want to edit the titleblock family you will see there is a category for <invisible lines>

this is what I would use.

Thanks Redrunner,

Sounds complicated! But I'll give that a go.

Might be easier for me just to save a blank template file with these pasted in for later.

Also, I can't find a way to pdf just the sheet extents, without anything around it. In Autocad there is "window" which allows you to draw a box around the A1 sheet for it to crop to that box. Can't find a way to just get it to print A1 and omit anything around it.

Thanks Howard,

We used these grids for a project last year, I will look into it, they were very useful. The only thing is they are very regular like graph paper and my layouts are normally slightly more bespoke. It also helped us align plans from one page to the next so that the pdf plans flick properly from page to page without jumping around. Makes it look more professional to those receiving a pack of drawings. I'll definitely have a play with these and incorporate them thanks.

Superb! I was wondering where I have seen the invisible lines. Not sure why they are not in the main file. Having to put them in the titleblock family makes them slightly annoying but hey ho!

Hi @fortywebs

Usually you can use invisible lines and they are available, but they are not available in the titleblock unless you are in the family editor.

Why don't you just turn off the Line(s)?
