How to Explode An AutoCAD 3D Model in Revit Architecture?

If you select the IMPORTED File/Model in the Contextual Tab in the Ribbon there will be an option to explode geometry.  This may not work for all 3D CAD models!

Hello,

I imported the file and tried to Explode it, there's an error notification popping out sir. As you can see in the attachment. Now what to do next, Sir?

I thought this nay be the case, some 3D Cad files cannot be exploded.

 

A common solution for 3D CAD files that down cut or display correctly is to import each CAD into its own Generic Model family.

Create a New Generic Model Family

Insert the 3D Cad file

Save and then Insert the Generic Model Family into the Revit Project

 

you can Explode a 3D CAD Model in the Family Editor as per the link above
