Hi,
I am new to Revit. Kindly advise on my query.
1. I have a drawing in skp/dxf format, that I want to use in Revit LT. I have successfully imported the file into Revit LT but now I am stuck since I cannot edit this file in Revit LT.
2. Also, Is it possible to add parametric dimensions to this imported file to make the components inside the drawing dynamic?
3. For Sketchup there exists a library "Warehouse 3D" for warehouse components. Is there is similar one for Revit? I have found some databases online but majority of them are "architectural" centered. I want specific to warehouse (For eg, racks, shelves, MHE, Vertical lifts etc.)
thank you
1 - if you have linked the SKP / DXF, you can't edit the file. SKPs can be used in Revit projects, but they come in as 'dumb' geometry
to make an imported CAD file editable, a drastic approach would be to (a) unpin and (b) explode the model. PS - exploding an imported CAD model may
create more problems than it solves
2 - Parametric Dimensions - as your model is - most probably not.
Your DXF seems to have super simple geometry. I would re-model this from scratch. Open Revit, start a New Family, and model. Advantages of this -
1 - You can control the behavior of the geometry by adding all the parametric dimensions, visibility controls, formulas, that you need
2 - This is much better for the overall health of the project.
thank you for your response it been helpful.
For Sketchup there exists a library "Warehouse 3D" for warehouse components. Is there is similar one for Revit? perhaps with parametric type? The built in "warehouse" BIM object is a good option if you can find what you need in there. Revit City, manufacturer websites, and ARCAT are other options. I'd recommend spending the time on learning to model in Revit though, It will be much more useful; sooner than later,
