How to create the footing for an Architecture Column?

Hi there,

I am a beginner of Revit and I am doing my assignment for this course.

In my opinion, the difference between an Architecture column and a structure column is the Architecture one can have the appearance. So I created some Architecture columns by creating a new family in my assignment followed by the sample drawings that the tutor gave me.

But after finishing the column part, I can't add the footing for it. When I click Isolated Foundation under Structure Tab, it said "No structural foundations family is loaded in the project." So I can't add a footing in my house.

What does it mean? Does it mean I didn't create a structural column or I didn't create a structural foundation wall? I created an Architectural wall for the foundation wall by selecting the material as concrete. Is it wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Yao

It means that you need to Load the Family. That's all. Once Loaded into Project, you can place it under the column.

...is this is what you are referring to?

Hi Barthbradley

Yes, it is the reminder that I saw. But I have loaded my Architectural column into the project. There is no structural element in my  drawing. Is it the reason that I can't add an isolated footing?

Thank you.

You should be able to add the isolated footing.  Are you saying that you can't place the Structural Foundation Footing Family that is in your Project Browser?  What happens when you try?

I put a Wall as concrete in Architecture Tab to be the foundation. I didn't choose the Structure Wall to be the foundation in Structure Tab. Should I change the foundation wall into the Structure type? Because there is no structural element in my drawing. I think that is the reason the reminder came out.

As I said: the message is informing you that you don't have the family -- which you are trying to place -- loaded into the project.  It has nothing to do with Structural and not Structural.   Revit is just saying it can't complete the task at hand until you load a family to use.

Got it! That makes sense!

Thank you very much!
