How to Create Full Materials List in Revit

I am trying to create a full materials list for a bunkhouse, but I'm having trouble finding a single tutorial to cover everything I'm looking for.

My goal is to have a complete list of every part and piece that will be used in the bunkhouse. Everything from roof to rebar and down to the length of wire needed to connect the lights and smoke detectors.

Has anyone done an indepth materials list like this? If so, can you refer me to a tutorial or walk me through your work-flow? Please note, I am not looking for cost estimation, specifically materials quantities, square footages, counts, and lengths.

My current approach is to produce materials take off sheets for each category then open them in excel and compile into a master list. This is VERY labor intensive and I feel like there is a better way.

Thanks.

Multi-Category MTO is not working for you?

Have you tried using a Multi-Category Schedule?

That is really close to what I am looking for. Now I just need to get Area and Volume. Thanks.

Do you folks have a good tutorial on how to use schedules?

You can. Include the Material: Area and Material: Volume Parameter Fields.

This looks like a pretty good one:

There are others -- just a Google search away.

GOT IT! Ok, so I just select <Multi-Category> from the top of the list. Thank you.

So I have been digging into the difference between the Multi-Category Material Takeoff sheet and the plethora of Material Takeoff Sheets I created and found a few differences. Maybe you guys can help me understand where these differences are coming from or what I'm missing.

First, there are some things that are omitted from the Multi-Category sheets. Chiefly, it doesn't break out the wall assembly into it's materials. So I don't see how much GWB, insulation, wood stud, or OSB are in the project.

Secondly, some things seem to be counted multiple times. I checked to make sure that there aren't multiple instances in the same location. I suspect it has something to do with the material options associated with each family.

Anyone know what is going on with these? Thanks.
