Hello all,
I am trying to create an instance parameter that picks the paint material information when I paint on walls. I'm trying to eliminate the need of duplicating the wall types when the only change in the assembly is the finish material.
Do you guys have a solution or workaround to this issue?
Thank you so much.

I'm not following. Why do you to create an Instance Parameter? It's already reportable. Create a Material Takeoff for Walls and add the "Material: As Paint" Parameter Field.

Oh, believe me, I understand. But I am working with some people who want to see the information in the properties browser real quick when they select a wall in floor plan view and understand what is painted on this wall. If this is not an option then I'd have to make wall types for each and every color we're gonna use in the project and I'm trying to eliminate that process. May be you can suggest me in a better way of doing it.
Thank you!
Use material tag on elevation.

Why would you need to do that? All you would need to do is put a Material Project Parameter into the Wall Category Instance Properties. Then when you Paint a Wall, associate this Material Parameter under the Wall's Instance Properties to the Paint Material used on it.
I get it. I wouldn't do it. It would be a nightmare to manage. I also wouldn't create a new wall type for every wall that has a different paint material applied to its surfaces (exterior/interior). That would be an even bigger nightmare to manage.
Hi, i thing this video can help you (2421) Determine Which Material Has Been Painted on a Surface in Revit - YouTube. I had the same request and the only information that i found was that if you want to check quickly what kind of painted material was aplied choose the "remove paint tool" and put the cursor over the desired place and you see the material.
