how to create a genetic model in a cured surface

Hi, I have a roof that is curved shape in front view. It 's made of metal panel with reveals. My questions is how to create these reveals in the cured surface. I use "model in place " command but I can not set the workplane because it's a curved shape.

any help would be appreciated, thank you so much.

Your message says "genetic model in a cured surface", and in the image it says "genetric" and "cured share". What exactly do you mean?

I'm LMAO, Alfredo! No offense @Anonymous. It's just that when I saw "genetics", I had this horrible flash back to Biology class in school. HATED IT WITH A PASSION!

Real quick, though...is your roof defined with reveals or are you trying to add after the fact?

Thank you for your message. First of all, I dont use a roof command to create the roof because it's not a common profile. So I use a wall command to do this roof, because under wall command it's easy to edit the profile. As you see in the images, the roof is a curved shape. The way I did is I use a wall command to do the roof, then I modified it , make it curved shape. Then I tried to use model in place command to do reveals. Because the roof material is metal panel, and I will have a rendering. That's why I really need to show these reveals.

Maybe you could do it as an in-place mass, starting from an elevation view, where you would simply draw that shape, with the curve, and the select the shape and do Create Form. Then, from a 3d view, you can select the side faces, and do Divide Surface, specify 1 division in horizontal direction and the desired number of divisions in the vertical direction. That would give you something like this, below.

These are simple lines, not reveals. For actual reveals, you could: use Wall by Face to create walls based on the sides of this shape, and then use the Wall > Reveal tool, vertically, to create the reveals, using the lines in the divided surface as a guide.

Just a side note: this kind of shape is not functional for a roof. The top is flat, and the curve at the end will just help to drive water down the lower surface. Just a comment, though. I don't have more information about this.

You can create either a void extrusion or a void sweep follows the shape of the roof.  Below is an example using a void sweep.

Hi ToanDN, thanks for making such an amazing video to show me how to do the reveals. It's very easy to understand . And I appreciated your help. But I still have a question. As I explained before, when I made roof, I used " wall command " instead of "roof command " because under " wall command " I can used " edit profile " .That's how I made this roof. I know there must be some easy way to do this roof. And I looked at your video, you actually use " roof command" to do this roof. Can you please show me how to use "roof command " to do this roof ?  this roof is kind of special because it's curved in the front. And I never use " massing-roof " command before.So can you please show me how to make this special roof ?

again, really appreciate your help.

@Anonymous

I did not use the Roof tool.  I created it using model in-place to build an extrusion solid under Roof category.  It may not matter much but I like to create the building components under their correct category.

If you have LT by any chance then you don't have this function, unfortunately.
