How to Convert .rfa to .ifc

I need to convert a .rfa file to .ifc for import into a separate program. I have done this successfully with .rvt files, but when attempting to export to IFC from the .rfa file the option which is normally available for export is greyed out. 

It will also not allow me to 'save as' the .rfa file as a .rvt to complete the export I have done in the past.

Start a project...insert the .rfa and place it in the project (best at the default project base point location) then export to ifc

I don't want to load the rfa into rvt and then convert to ifc.

I want to convert directly file .rfa to .ifc ? 

Is this possible?

GeometryGym's IFC tools will allow you to export to IFC from a .rfa file but it would be good to have this OOTB.
