Hi,
I'm trying to add a new rail or balustrade. After adding the rail using the Railing tool, I have the option in the Properties drop down menu of choosing several different types that are pre loaded into Revit. However, I wish to change this to other types, but the options available are not linked to the Families folder (that I can see). I'm not sure where they are coming, if I did I could add more options. Refer screenshot. Does anyone know how or where I can add different type of balustrading and fencing, so I can select them once I've drawn the Rail sketch path?
Thanks
go to railing > edit type > then duplicate. thanks

Rail???
Drill down into this Link:
railings are system families and are comprised of various the components and profiles. like @barthbradley & @ennujozlagam mention, you can duplicate the railing type and edit the available options. if the options you are looking for are not there, specific Baluster size/shape, Railing, Top Rail, etc... they can be created or loaded. they can be found in the Project Browser > Families > Railings

You mean you can't get the railing to host to the surface of toposurface? This capability was first introduced in 2019 -- I believe.

Thanks. What I am trying to do is add a fence, using the Railing Sketch path tool as this will follow the topography of my plot of land. Then, instead of using Balustrading, or a rail, I want to be able to add in a picket fence for example. I have many in my library I could use.
Railing Library? What is it and where is it?

Thanks for your help.
Tim.
IF when you say Library, you are referring to a separate project where you have railing types you would like to use
Then You can use Transfer Project Standars

Ok... then use the transfer project standard shown above … bring all your railings to your project then you see them in the drop down type selector

Ok, lets put it another way.
How do you add a fence, one that you have as a family from another project, to Topography?
What year version of Revit do you have? If 2019 or greater, select railing and click on PICK HOST and then pick the Topo to host the railing.
NOTE: you can sketch the railing on any level first -- then re-host it.
Thanks. I am trying to be able to select my fence family but I ant figure out how to get it into this list. See screenshot below. I have checked the Profiles folder in Families and they are different. I have found them in the Project Browser, but don't know how to add to them?
I have several fences I would like to add to the list so I can select them.
